About Me

Slags is a visual UX designer and a strategic creative leader with 20+ years building brands, products, and the teams behind them. His work spans industries from automotive, healthcare, finance, consumer goods, tech, and AI.

I'm an ambitious designer with over 20 years of experience in design and 8 years of leading multi-disciplinary teams, mentoring designers, and managing client relationships directly. My work spans from dreaming up full brand campaigns to pixel-pushing designs of every size and material. My specialization in product design, digital transformation, and unorthodox storytelling brings tangibility to ideas no matter how big, hairy or elusive.

I work fast and think wide, leveraging the skills I've earned over two decades in human-centered design, graphic design, branding, creative direction and rapid prototyping. I'm equally comfortable white-boarding strategy as I am making it real through design.

When I'm not neck deep in Figma, you can find me in my woodworking shop building stuff, tinkering with Arduino and 3D printing, or trying a new recipe.

My design Philosophy

01

Human-centered or bust.

Human-centered design for innovation draws from my toolkit as a designer to integrate: the needs of people with the possibilities of technology and the requirements for business success.

02

Curiosity is the backbone of creativity.

As a designer, being curious also means always adapting to the new tools and challenges we face when there is no defined answer, to forge our own path to the solution.

03

AI is another tool in the designer's toolkit.

I believe AI is the tide that will raise the standard for what users and business expect for good design, and we as designers should embrace technology for how it enables us to do our best work.

04

Anyone can design.

To quote Ratatouille, this does not mean that anyone can make a great design, but that a great design idea can come from anywhere. By democratizing design tools, and encouraging all to participate, we allow great ideas to flourish no matter where they originate from.

05

Good design is invisible.

From Dieter Rams 10 commandments of good design: "Good design is as little design as possible. Less, but better – because it concentrates on the essential aspects, and the products are not burdened with non-essentials."
